You read that right! I have re-subbed to BoxyCharm after a year long hiatus. I had been a loyal BoxyCharm subscriber from July 2017 through May 2019, but ultimately un-subbed because I was going on maternity leave. But after a year long break, I am so excited to finally get my monthly boxes again! Here is my review on the April 2020 BoxyCharm base box. Theme: Boxy Vibes.

A lot has changed over the past year – such as the introduction of the premium box (which I will be testing out next month). The price has also changed from $21 monthly to $25 monthly (plus $5 shipping for fellow Canadians like me). If you are interested in subscribing to BoxyCharm, use my referral link. Upon opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised with the contents.

April 2020 Box Contents

Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Hydrate Primer

Cost: $32.00 USD / $43.00 CAD (on Sephora)

Benefit says that this hydrating primer minimizes pores and fine lines, instantly moisturizes and refreshes skin. It also says you can wear solo for hydrating skin, or as a base for makeup. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure about the whole primer solo on the skin look at first.

Overall, I really enjoy this primer. I would definitely would say that my skin looked silky and hydrated, and I would definitely wear it alone. After applying my makeup, my foundation looked flawless! This is definitely in my top 3 favourite primers.

Iconic London Illuminator Drops

Cost: $41.00 USD / $56.00 CAD (on Iconic London website)

I received the shade Glow, which is a terracotta bronze. The Iconic London website says that this product can be added to your foundation, primer or moisturizer. It can also be used on it’s own for a super highlighted glow or as contour.

This shade is too deep for my skin tone to be used as a highlighter which was a little disappointing. There is also little bits of glitter in the product, so I personally wouldn’t mix it with my foundations or use as contour on a regular basis. However, I can see myself using this to bronze up my face during beach days in the summer.

Illuminator Drops applied to the cheek area

Lavish 5 Piece Neon Eye Brush Collection

Cost: $29.99 USD / ~ $42.27 CAD (based on current exchange rates)

Initially, I was disappointed that I was receiving an eye brush set in my box. I have a ton of brushes in my collection already (a lot of which are from previous BoxyCharm boxes). However, I am happy to say that these brushes proved me wrong!

This set came with an eyebrow brush, a blending brush, a shader brush, a pencil brush and an eyeliner brush. These brushes are SO soft and fluffy. Each brush works amazing for it’s purpose. I will definitely add these to my regular rotation of eye brushes.

The Original Makeup Eraser

Cost: $20.00 USD / $26.00 CAD (on Sephora)

I actually already own a makeup eraser and I love it! One of my 2020 goals was to reduce my waste and be more mindful when it comes to recycling and composting. It’s easy to use, just goes in the wash, and removes most makeup with ease. Sometimes foundation and mascara can be a little bit more stubborn, and require a cotton round and miscellar water.

Makeup Eraser says one side is meant for makeup removal and the other side is for exfoliation. I would say it is more of a gentle exfoliation, and when I exfoliate I look for something a little stronger. The makeup eraser in the box came in a cute sunset pattern. I am actually glad to have a second one in my collection, so no complaints here!

Elemis Superfood Cica Calm Cleansing Foam

Cost: $32.00 USD / $42.22 CAD (on Amazon)

This was another item I wasn’t crazy about at first. I received the Elemis Superfood Night Cream in a previous box, and the smell was horrible. However, the cleanser scent is no where near as strong. Elemis claims this cleansing foam leaves skin looking calm, balanced and fresh.

I actually enjoyed this cleanser, but it makes leaves my skin feeling slightly tingly. I assume that there is an ingredient in it that my skin is a bit sensitive to, but it doesn’t leave it red and irritated. After one use, my skin felt clean and smooth. I will continue to use this cleanser until my Sephora order comes in, then I will probably just pass it on to my fiancé.

Final Thoughts on the April 2020 BoxyCharm Base Box

The total cost of this box is $155.00 USD / ~$210.00 CAD.

I am overall really satisfied with this box. There was a nice variation of products. Looking at all of the other items in this months box, this was probably the best possible variation that BoxyCharm could’ve sent me.
