Another month – another BoxyCharm review (this one is really late – I’m sorry)! Welcome to my August 2021 BoxyCharm Base Box Review. This month’s base box has a total value of $179.00! With one of the products being valued at $70.00! BoxyCharm is a monthly makeup subscription that costs $25USD (+5 shipping if you are in Canada like me). Interested in trying out BoxyCharm? Use my referral link here.
This month’s theme was “Go All Out”. Each month BoxyCharm gives their base subscribers one choice item in their box. For August, subscribers had a choice between Lavaa Beauty Flirty Lash Set, Dr Lili Fan Probiotic Lash Enhancer, Purlisse Ageless Glow Serum BB Cream, and the Iconic London Ultimate Bronzing Powder. Keep on reading to find out what products I received in my August 2021 BoxyCharm base box.
This daily moisturizer is supposed to instantly reveal your skin’s natural glow, and leave it softer and smoother. It contains glycolic and lactic acides, as well as pineapple, pumpkin, and papaya enzymes to instantly reduce the appearance of surface dullness and uneven skin texture. Kate Somerville has always been one of those brands that I wanted to try, but is super out of my budget. So I wish super excited to get this in my box! It’s value is almost 3x as much as the BoxyCharm box itself!
This moisturizer smells heavenly. I can’t quite put my finger on it. It kind of smells like cotton candy, but not as sweet. This moisturizer worked wonderfully. It brightened up my skin, it was super smooth, and was absorbed into the skin without leaving my face feeling greasy. I can see how this product is good for all skin types. My skin is on the dry side, but certain products can leave my face looking oily. Not this moisturizer. It soaked up nicely all over. Is it worth the $93.00 CAD price tag? The jury’s out on that one…
COST: USD $70.00 / CAD $93.00 (on Sephora.com)
This is definitely one of the most unique eye shadow palettes that I own. I don’t normally like palette’s with cheesy theme’s (they tend to be fairly cheap looking), but this one I found to be quite beautiful. I had never even heard of Dito Cosmetics before, so I was really looking forward to testing this palette out.
The eyeshadows truly are stunning. Deimos and Mars are unlike any other shade that I own. The shadows are buttery, smooth, and blend out beautifully. There is however, a lot of kick back and fall out from the shadows. While there are 3 mattes in the palette, I would’ve liked to see maybe one or two more to help create more variety.
COST: USD $29.99 / ~ $38.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
This was my choice of the month! The packaging just looked so luxurious and reminded me a lot of the Marc Jacobs bronzer that is so popular among beauty influencers. It is supposed to give a natural, skin-kissed finish and create a smooth and even complexion.
When I first swatched this bronzer, I was a bit disappointed. I thought it was going to be way to light for me to use right now, and I was going to have to wait a while for my summer tan to fade. I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to test it out on my face to see that it still gave a subtle, sunny glow! The finish is super sheer, but it is buildable. This has become my go-to bronzer (replacing the long time fav Physician’s Formula). I just find that the Iconic London bronzer is far more subtle and natural.
COST: USD $35.00 / CAD $48.00 (on Iconic London website)
These collagen gel eye pads come in a set of 5, and are supposed to reduce wrinkles and dark circles. Prior to receiving these in this month’s BoxyCharm, I had never heard of this brand, so I was pretty excited to try them out. I absolutely loved the design of these gel pads. The little star confetti pieces are super cute!
These gel eye pads are actually super hydrating. They give the under eye a nice cooling sensation. They stay put nicely underneath the eye area, so you can actually sit up vertical while wearing them – which is a bonus in my opinion. After one use, my eyes looked instantly brighter and more awake. I would definitely say they also looked less red and puffy. But the $32.00 price tag is a bit steep in my opinion.
COST: $32.00 USD / ~ $41.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
I was disappointed to see these makeup remover wipes in my BoxyCharm. Mainly because I received the Vitamin C version back in my May 2020 Box. And secondly, because I prefer to use Makeup Eraser’s sine they are more environmentally friendly. These face wipes are supposed to clear away all traces of dirt, oil, and makeup and the caviar and dead sea minerals are supposed to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
These wipes, similarly to the Vitamin C ones, do leave my face feeling fresh and clean after use. They do a great job at removing makeup (including mascara’s and matte lipsticks). I don’t know how much they help the fine lines and wrinkles aspect though.
COST: $12.00 USD / ~ $15.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
Final Thoughts On The August 2021 BoxyCharm Base Box
Overall, the August 2021 BoxyCharm Base Box was a good one! The Iconic London Bronzer has already became my new go-to. I love that I received such a high end brand like Kate Somerville (and a SINGLE product that was worth almost 3x the box itself!). The eye shadow palette and gel eye pads were also a success! The value of this month’s box was $179.00 USD / ~ $235.00 CAD. You cannot complain about that value for a $25 box. Also not all of these products I cannot easily buy in Canada, which is something I really love about BoxyCharm. What products did you receive in this months box?! Until next time, XX.
