Every year, July 29th marks national lipstick day. To celebrate, many brands often offer a discount on their lip products. Lipstick is my favourite beauty product. I am all about a simple face/eye with a solid lip. I really think that lipstick can transform any makeup look.
Colourpop has been on fire lately with their makeup launches and there has been a TON of products that I wanted to try out. My experience with Colourpop products is limited to what I’ve received in previous BoxyCharm boxes. Prior to this order I have tried two lippies and an eyeshadow palette, which I enjoyed. The lippies were the ultra satin lip which were good, but I prefer a matte formula.
To celebrate national lipstick day, they were offering 40% off of all lip products. I decided to use this as an excuse to purchase some of the items I had had my eye on.
I am 100% a matte lip girl because I like lip products that don’t budge. I want to be able to put my lipstick on and not have to worry about it coming off throughout the day. Colourpop’s Liquid Lipsticks are affordable on a normal day, but I only paid $4.20 a pop for these suckers!
I have really been into peach tones lately. Lipstick, blush – you name it. Speed dial was described as a “rich peach – safe for late nights” on Colourpop’s website.
Told Ya So
Sticking with the orange theme, I decided to pick up Told Ya So. It is described as a burnt sienna and looked unlike any other colour I currently have in my collection.
Most Likely To
The final Ultra Matte Lip colour I chose was Most Likely To. My main go-to for lips is nude/brown but I have been trying to wear more pink tones. Most Likely To is a mid tone rose – and there was just something about this colour that drew me to it.
The Ultra Matte Lipstick formula is SUPER comfortable. While it is not the most long lasting matte lipstick out there, it definitely has a pretty solid staying power. I would probably equate the formula to be similar to the Anastasia Beverly Hill Liquid Lipsticks– both brands I could use a little touch up after I finish eating. But I am not going to complain considering how much these Colourpop lippies cost! The formula isn’t so drying to the point that your lipstick flakes off if you need to touch up later on, which can be hard to find with liquid lipsticks.
I have been dying to try Colourpop’s lippie stix for years now. Since the lippie stix also come in a matte formula, I decided to give a couple a try. The guys were only $3.60 a piece!
Looking back as I write this post, I didn’t realize that this was a Colourpop bestseller! Brink is far more pink than I tend to gravitate towards. But this terracotta rose colour must have really appealed to me at the time – considering I also purchased the lip liner.
For some reason, I was really feeling the pink lips when I made this purchase. Goal Digger is described as a warm rose shade, but the online swatches looked like a colour I would wear.
I am not quite sure how I feel about the applicator of the Lippie Stix. As you can tell by my first swatch – it’s a little rough looking. I definitely find using a liquid lipstick to be easier than a bullet lipstick, and I would rate the Lippie Stix as being a bit more difficult than a bullet lipstick. Not that it’s really hard or anything – just takes some getting used to.
The Lippie Stix apply relatively nicely to the lips, just the shape of them makes it harder to get a precise application. The formula dries down to be a comfortable matte finish.
Ever since I started really getting into makeup a few years ago, I had always been committed to a liquid lip. I just didn’t like the way “traditional” lipsticks applied, and I felt that even if they were a matte formula, they didn’t have as strong of a staying power. But recently brands have been coming out with matte lipstick formulas that definitely rivaled some liquid lipstick formulas out there – so I decided to give the Colourpop Matte Lux Lipsticks a try. These were the most expensive lip product Colourpop had and even then – I only paid $4.50 per lipstick!
First of all – this packaging is GORGEOUS. It looks and feels luxurious.
This shade gives me total fall vibes! I didn’t have a single burgendy/purple shade in my collection at home, but for some reason Sashay was calling my name.
Apparently, this was a limited edition shade so it is no longer on the Colourpop website. Electric Feel is a beautiful warm coral. This colour reminds me a little bit more of my traditional go-to shades.
These swatches just look beautifully creamy and delicious – and they feel just as creamy when applied to the lips. I would say it takes a few minutes before the finish dries down to be completely matte, but I actually like this in a lipstick. Since it doesn’t dry quickly, it’s easier to apply in areas where you may be required to do a second coat.
A good lippie pencil can change your lipstick game! I believe that with the right lip pencil, you can increase your lipsticks wear big time. I also like using lip liners to alter the shade of a lipstick that I don’t particularly like how it looks on my skin. Sometimes with nudes I order something that is TOO nude and washes me out. Using lipliner can allow me to change the colour without wasting the lipstick #hacks.
As I mentioned above – I didn’t even realize I purchased both the Brink Lippie Stix and the Lippie Pencil. The lippie pencil does appear to be a bit darker than the Lippie Stix rather than being a perfect match.
Another Round Pencil
Another Round Pencil is a rosey nude. I don’t have very many nude lipstick pencils in my current collection, so I knew this was a must-get.
The Colourpop lippie pencils are so unbelievably creamy, which makes application a breeze. I like the size of the liner, because it is thin enough that application is precise.
9 Pan Eyeshadow Palettes
I am obsessed with these colour themed palettes that Colourpop has been coming out with recently.
I love the yellow eyeshadow trend that has taken off this summer. So when Colourpop came out with this gorgeous 9-pan all yellow palette, I just knew I had to have it.
Orange You Glad
I am obsessed with the colours in this 9-pan orange themed palette. I love orange shadows and I find them to be a bit more versatile than the yellow themed palette.
Colourpop really hit the nail on the head with these shadows. My only “complaint” is that the pan size is so small, but realistically I have never hit pan on a palette so why I am even complaining?! The shadows are creamy, pigmented, and blend really well. There is a nice balance of mattes, shimmer, and even a pressed glitter which I love.
Overall I am really happy with my first experience ordering from Colourpop. They offer free global shipping to Canada after you spend $50 – which is way more then reasonable.
My order shipped relatively quickly and didn’t take very long to arrive. My only complaint was it was difficult to track my package because the tracking number they gave me was not accurate.
I look forward to being able to order from Colourpop again – there are so many other products I am wanting to try! Do you have any suggestions? Until next time – xox.
