Another month – another BoxyCharm review! Welcome to my September 2020 BoxyCharm base box review. This month’s base box has a total value of $128.00! BoxyCharm is a monthly makeup subscription that costs $25USD (+5 shipping if you are in Canada like me). Interested in trying out BoxyCharm? Use my referral link here. This month’s theme was “Glam Vibes Only”. Each month BoxyCharm gives their base subscribers one choice item in their box. For September, we had the choice between the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment and the Farmacy Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry. Keep on reading to find out what products I received in my September 2020 BoxyCharm base box!
This product cost more than the BoxyCharm base box itself! I love testing out new eye creams but they are so expensive. This eye cream claims to be a super hydrating, rich cream that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and dark circles. This product is marked green at Sephora, meaning it is formulated without toxic ingredients. It is also vegan, cruelty and gluten free AND comes in recyclable packaging. We love an environmentally friendly brand!
There is a light sent to the cream, but I wouldn’t describe it as unpleasant or overwhelming. When applied on the eye area, it is almost instantly hydrating. It left my eye area feeling nice and firm. My under eye looked bright and awake. Out of all the eye creams I have tested, this is probably one of my favourites!
Cost: $45.00 USD / $58.00 CAD (on Sephora.com)
This is a limited edition palette. I love receiving limited edition or exclusive products in BoxyCharm! It is definitely a fun perk of being a charmer. This palette includes 2 blushes and 6 eyeshadows.
Eventide was such a unique blush shade, but it was overly pigmented and had a ton of kickback. It did blend out okay with a beauty blender, but I was looking a little clown-like when I first applied this blush to my cheeks. Sundown on the other hand has the opposite problem. It is not very pigmented, but it is buildable and can turn into a beautiful sheen blush. These shadows definitely require a primer before use, as they don’t have the best staying power.
Overall, I was not a fan of the overall colour scheme in this palette. The two matte eyeshadows were brown and white which is not a lot to work with. The brown shadow – nightfall – actually ended up being a really pretty transition shade. It is super buttery, smooth, buildable, and blended out beautifully! The shimmer shades; however, were beautiful. The colours were really pretty, sheen, and buildable. I will definitely get use out of the shimmer shadows, but I will have to use another palette alongside it.
COST: $26.00 USD / ~ $35.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
On the BoxyCharm info page that comes with the box, this palette is listed as being $26.00 USD but the website had it’s original price as $45.00 USD. This palette is not worth $45.00.
This lipstick was hands down my favourite product in this month’s box. From the beautiful packaging, to the unique coating on the lipstick, to the shade and lipstick itself – it was amazing. The Lip Love Luxe lipstick has a vegan, cruelty free formula and a satin finish. The shade L.O.V.E is a true blue/red lipstick.
What is so unique about this lipstick, is the dissolvable shimmer coating on the outside of the lipstick. Once applied to the lips, you can see a little of the purple flecks on the lips but it is barely noticeable. The formula of this lipstick is so smooth, creamy, and hydrating. It doesn’t settle into the lines of the lips. I also really like the shade with my skin tone. My only complaint about this product, would be that since it is a satin formula, it is not transfer-proof.
I wish I was able to purchase this lipstick in Canada, I would definitely purchase more shades.
COST: $18.00 USD / ~ $25.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
BoxyCharm listed this product as being worth $18.00 USD; whereas, the Hank + Henry website has it listed for $19.00 USD. Either way, this is an extremely affordable lipstick and worth the price.
Mascaras are one of my favourite products to receive in my BoxyCharms. It is the one product that I use everyday. BoxyCharm allows me to affordably test new mascara’s out. This mascara claims to lengthen and curl the lashes with just a few strokes.
I definitely wouldn’t describe this mascara as being lengthening , but it does a good job separating the lashes and making them look fuller. It also doesn’t lump when you apply multiple coats. The wand is on the larger side compared to what I typically enjoy. Overall this mascara isn’t great, but isn’t horrible.
COST: $24.00 USD / ~ $32.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
Billion Dollar Beauty Charcoal Beauty Sponge
I have tried the Billion Dollar Beauty brand in a previous BoxyCharm box, and I wasn’t a fan of the product. So I was a little disappointed to see this brand again. This sponge says that it’s charcoal infused sponge provides a perfect application for a filtered look. When compared to a regular Beauty Blender, this beauty sponge is more dense and a little larger in size.
I actually really liked this sponge! It applied my concealer really nice and evenly. The sponge didn’t just ask up the product.
COST: $15.00 USD / ~ $20.00 CAD (based on the current exchange rate)
Final Thoughts on the September 2020 BoxyCharm Base Box
Overall, The September 2020 BoxyCharm base box was a win for me! I will definitely get use out of all 5 products. The total value of this month’s box was $128.00 USD / ~ $170.00 CAD! Can’t really complain about that.
What variation did you receive this month? Until next time. XX.
