The key to smooth, healthy looking skin is a regular skincare routine. And the key to maintaining a regular skincare routine is having one that is simple. I’ve got the perfect, simple 6 step skincare routine that will leave your skin feeling smooth, silky, and hydrated all day long. With the exception of step 1, I recommend doing steps 2-6 both morning and night for the best results.

I will also share a few of my favourite products with you, but it is important to note that the products that I love might not work for you. My skin is on the dry side, so keep that in mind. I personally think it is okay to switch up your skincare items every once in a while, but I wouldn’t go crazy trying multiple new products at once.

Don’t be afraid to ask for samples at Sephora or Ulta! They are meant for you to try products prior to purchasing in order to reduce waste. Alternatively, many brands offer mini trial sizes at a cheaper price.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation is a key step to maintaining healthy skin. Exfoliating removes dead and dull skin; however, you want to limit it to 1-2x a week because any more than that could be too harsh.

One of my favourite skincare brands is Olehenriksen. Their products use clean ingredients, are on the affordable side of skincare (but not drug store) and they have different lines for different skin types. Two of my favourite exfoliators are from Olehenriksen.

The first one is the Olehenriksen Pore-Balance Facial Sauna Scrub. While this product is listed as being best for oil and combination skin, I don’t find that this product dries my skin out. It does a great job removing dead skin and leaving my skin feeling smooth. I have a full review on this product here.

I also really like the Transforming Walnut Scrub from Olehenriksen. This exfoliator is good for all skin types. This scrub is courser than the Pore-Balance Facial Sauna Scrub but has a similar effect. My skin is always left feeling smooth and clean.

Step 2: Cleanse

Cleansing your skin removes dirt, makeup, pollution, and other toxins from your skin. You can also double cleanse with an oil cleanser first to remove makeup at the end of the day. Personally, I really like foaming cleansers. I also really like using a cleansing brush (like the Foreo Mini 2) to allow for a deeper cleanse.

The Olehenriksen Truth line is my absolute favourite. I honestly swear that this makeup line saved my dry, dull skin. The Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser has a wonderful orange scent and leaves the skin feeling smooth and hydrated. My fiancé and I both LOVE this cleanser and we’re actually extremely sad that it has been out of stock forever at Sephora. Olehenriksen recently came out with a Truth Juice Daily Cleanser that I would like to try in the future.

Another cleanser I really enjoy is the GlamGlow’s Gentle Bubble Daily Conditioning Cleanser. Similarly to the Olehenriksen clean truth cleanser – my skin always feels clean and smooth after using this cleanser. I wouldn’t say it is as hydrating, but it’s still a nice cleanser.

Most recently I’ve been trying out the Skinfix Barrier+ Foaming Oil Cleanser. Although I am not usually a fan of oil cleansers, this one doesn’t feel very oily. It is hydrating, smooth, and cooling on the skin.

Step 3: Tone

Next, you want to tone your skin following cleansing. Toners can remove any final traces of makeup and impurities that may have missed during the makeup removal. It also balances your skins natural pH following cleansing.

I’ve recently been trying out the new Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner and enjoying it. The packaging is super luxurious, smells amazing, and leaves the skin feeling nice and balanced. It isn’t drying whatsoever.

A drugstore option that I didn’t mind, was the Burt’s Bees Rosewater & Glycerin Toner. It always does a great job of removing leftover makeup left on the skin. I didn’t find it super hydrating, but it also wasn’t drying either.

Step 4: Serum

Since I have dry skin, I always look for facial serums that have vitamin C in it. Serum is a key ingredient in hydrating your skin. An important part of the serum step is that you allow the serum to soak into skin prior to moisturizing.

My number one favourite facial serum is the Olehenriksen Truth Serum. It contains vitamin C and collagen which contribute to hydrating and brightening the skin.

Alternatively, I also enjoy the Sephora Ultra Glow Serum. This serum contains vitamin C and E, which contribute to making the skin radiant.

Step 5: Eye Cream

It is really important you only apply creams meant for the eye area on your eyes. The skin surrounding your eyes is a lot thinner and more sensitive, and regular face moisturizers are too thick.

Again, one of my favourite eye cream products is from the Olehenriksen truth line. The Olehenriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème is a brightening eye créme designed to target the appearance of tired looking eyes. It’s extremely hydrating and does help to reduce puffiness. It also has a lovely banana scent!

I used the Clinque All About Eyes Rich for a long time until they changed the formula. I did find it to be really hydrating but the new formula didn’t target my dark circles the way I had hoped.

Step 6: Moisturize

The final step of this simple skincare routine is moisturizer. Again, for dry skin you want to look for a moisturizer with vitamin C. The Olehenriksen C-Rush Vitamin C Gel Moisturizer hydrates dry skin and diminishes dull-looking skin. My skin is always left looking hydrated and feeling smooth after I apply this.

If I am applying a full face of makeup afterwards, I like to use the Urban Decay Rehab Makeup Prep Hot Springs Hydrating Gel. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated, but tacky which is a good base for foundation.

Additional Steps

Once or twice a week I like to do a face mask to help promote hydrated, healthy looking skin. I look for masks with collagen to help hydrate and promote the skin’s natural elasticity. Some of the face masks that I enjoy are by The Crème Shop and Precision Beauty. I also enjoy the Farmacy Bright On massage-activated vitamin C mask. Another product I like to use to help remove dead and dry skin cells is the Saturday Skin Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel.

The most important thing in order to see results, is that you are consistent with your skincare routine. Your skincare items don’t need to be expensive or high-end! You can always find great options at the drug store.

I hope you enjoyed my simple skincare routine for healthy, smooth, glowing looking skin! What are some of your favourite skincare ingredients? Until next time. XX
